The word Photography means 'writing with light'. Light is the most important quality in a photograph and can be the deciding factor of whether that picture will be spectacular or terrible. Use light to its maximum potential for it reveals what is important in the picture and to set the overall tone. Lighting can create secrecy, solemnity, drama and other emotions in the viewer.
Be careful of over exposed highlights or under exposed dark areas in the photo, they can detract from the story, lessen the impact and divert the viewer's attention from the subject.
