The Third Element
Some people refer to a point of focus as being
a very important part of a successful landscape.
I prefer to call it the third element - reason
being is that point of focus can in my
view be a bit nebulous. In other words it might
be be construed as only something in
focus which doesn't add much to the image.
A landscape with only two elements (eg the sea and the sky with
great clouds) might be nice but add a third element (a boat, a
bird, a tree, whatever?) and the image is lifted into another
plain. An image with only two elements might be said th have
not enough in it or lacking a point of
focus if that term suits better.
So as you line up that winning image think about the
third Element.
