What makes a good photo?
Ron Parry APSNZ

It depends on who is asking!  What works for you won't necessarily work for others.
Beauty, or the appreciation of art in any form, is in the eye of the beholder and that is certainly the case with photography.

So, what makes a good photo?

"A photo that draws the viewer into the picture where they may linger over it rather than give a curious glance".

Most photographers just point and shoot, and hope something turns out. Maybe, something has caught the photographer's attention to take that picture, perhaps it was colour, an unusual shape or pattern or maybe a wonderful scene. Invariably, these photos will just be ordinary photos - the proverbial 'grab shot'.

However, if we are to take a good photo for the family album, a photo competition or display or maybe a book, then our photographs need to be more considered to attract and hold the viewer's attention.

A good photo shows something extraordinary, something that makes us stop and think.
